Manage user groups for Atlassian Dedicated Sites
Subscription Admins (SAs) and Project Admins (PAs) can manage user access at scale by synchronising user groups with an Atlassian Dedicated Site and assigning roles and permissions to those groups.
Prerequisites
Ensure the following:
- You are a Subscription Admin (SA) for the subscription, or a Project Admin (PA) for a SHIP-HATS project within the subscription.
- Identify which user groups you want to use. See View user groups.
- Users in the group have an Atlassian (Jira & Confluence) licence to access Atlassian Dedicated Sites. See:
How user groups work
Managing user groups involves two steps:
- Synchronise user groups – Make the group available in the dedicated site
- Assign roles and permissions – Control access within the site
Synchronise user groups with your dedicated site
In SHIP-HATS, user groups allow you to centrally manage user permissions for Jira, Confluence and JSM apps within your Atlassian dedicated site.
Prerequisites
Ensure the required user group already exists. If not, create the user group first.
Steps
In Console, go to your SHIP-HATS subscription > Tools > Atlassian Dedicated Site.

Select the required SHIP-HATS project.
Locate the required Atlassian Dedicated Site. Click the ellipsis (⋯) next to the site name, then select Manage.
Go to the User groups tab and select the required User group from the drop-down list.
Click Submit to synchronise the user group with the site.
The user group is synchronised with the site. It becomes available in your Atlassian apps (Jira, Confluence, and JSM).
After synchronising a user group, you can assign roles and permissions to control access within the dedicated site.
Things to note
- User groups must be synchronised with the site before roles can be assigned.
- All users in a group automatically inherit the assigned roles and permissions.
- Assigning roles to a group grants access to the site. It does not provision any licences.
- To revoke access, remove users from the group or update the group’s roles and permissions.
- Removing users from a group only revokes access to the associated Atlassian Dedicated Site. If they still have Atlassian or JSM licences through SHIP-HATS, they may continue to access other respective resources.
