Get started with AI coding tools
Follow these steps to start using AI coding tools in your project.
Before you begin
Ensure you have:
- TechPass account
- SEED device
Also confirm:
- your user type (public officer or augmented resource)
- your organisation (GovTech or other agencies)
Some systems (for example, CII/SII systems) require additional system-level approval before using agentic AI coding tools, even if the tools are available.
π See Additional approvals for CII/SII systems.
Step 1: Identify your Classification (Code and Data Classification) and Sensitivity (Data Sensitivity)
Determine your projectβs classification.
π See the Code Classification Overview.
If the classification is unclear, consult your project lead or security/governance team.
Step 2: Choose an AI coding tool
Choose an AI coding tool based on your organisation, user type and code classification.
The available AI coding tools depend on:
- your organisation (GovTech or other agencies)
- your user type (public officer or augmented resource)
- your classification and sensitivity
π See Available AI coding tools and Security and Sensitive Classification to confirm which tools are permitted for your setup.
Step 3: Request access
Request access to the AI coding tool that you want to use.
- For most AI coding tools, see Sign up for AI coding tools.
- For Claude Code, see Claude Code and follow the onboarding guide that matches your organisation and role.
For Augmented Resources (ARs), access to agentic AI tools may take up to 2 business days after form submission. Please wait at least 2 business days before raising a support ticket if you have not received access.
Step 4: Set up your AI coding tool
After your access request has been approved, set up your AI coding tool:
- If you are setting up Claude Code, follow the onboarding guide on the Claude Code page.
- For all other AI coding tools, see Set up AI coding tools.
π Set up coding tools.
Once your tool is set up, explore Agent Prime Directives (APD) to install curated skills and prompts that follow proven engineering practices.
