GovWallet Point of Sale (POS)
Objective
GovWallet POS extends GovWallet’s credit disbursement capabilities by enabling item-level policy enforcement at the point of redemption.
While GovWallet has traditionally allowed agencies to control where credits can be spent by whitelisting eligible merchants, certain government programmes require greater precision over what credits are spent on in order to meet policy objectives and ensure proper use of public funds.
GovWallet POS addresses this gap by providing a lightweight, browser-based point-of-sale interface that validates eligibility during checkout. Instead of relying on merchants to integrate with their own POS systems, the platform allows agencies to centrally define eligible items using unique product identifiers (such as barcodes or ISBNs). When a purchase is made, the system verifies the scanned item against the agency’s whitelist before allowing the transaction to proceed.
This approach enables consistent policy enforcement at the item level, reduces integration barriers for merchants, and allows agencies to run programmes that require tighter control over how credits are redeemed.
